Parameter:

  • is dedicated to the presentation and purchase of works that imaginatively use (re)generative methods, tools or ideations to entangle a variety of analogue and digital forms, processes and technologies, both traditional and emerging
  • explores the practices arising in the expanded field of generative arts and critically probes the material and cultural aspects of generative systems to counter the dominant techno-cultural currents and narratives surrounding generative art and technology
  • aims to support transformative practices and aesthetics that propose alternative modes of artistic production, use of material resources and interfacing with the world in a state of polycrisis
  • aims to support creative developments that may be difficult to absorb by recommender systems, commercial art markets or project-oriented production flows and instead emphasise care, accessibility, adaptability and resillience

Extended FAQs

  • The EU-only part is mainly due to our limited budget for travel and logistics. That said, if an artist happens to be in Europe around the event, they’re more than welcome to apply.
  • The artists apply to the call with their proposal for the Parameter fair. They can also include links to their representative website(s), portfolio, and any additional information they'd like to share.
  • The main prize exhibition will be organized with the awarded artist individually. Depending on the nature of the project they applied to the call, and their general practice/previous projects, we will plan the exhibition together through online meetings. There is a budget for materials and other production costs up to 500€ (gross), so the project can be adjusted/expanded to best fit the exhibition space and concept. So at the fair, the artist can present artefacts from the same project that's being exhibited or of a different project of theirs with which they applied.
  • The exhibition will open a few days before the Parameter fair, so the artist won't have to come to Ljubljana more than a week before the fair. The trip they'll make is to Ljubljana and back (accommodation is provided, and the travel expenses are covered). The teardown of the exhibition after it closes will be done in the absence of the artist.
