About workshop: Workshop Hidden Sounds will present working method of well known British musicians, improviser and sound artist Lee Patterson, one of the leading figures in the fields of amplification of small sounds and processes and in the sound practice of field recordings. Workshop will be an introduction to Patterson’s methods for amplification of small or unheard sounds using contact microphones and guitar pick-ups. Followed by an opportunity to build your own contact microphone.
About mentor: Lee Patterson is a musician and sound artist from Manchester, really quite obsessed with the sounds of nature and the sound itself, sound that travels through other media, not only the air but through water, metal fences, concrete bridges and the like. His work includes improvised music, recorded sounds from the environment, music and installations . Lee Patterson is trying to understand his surroundings using auxiliary naked eye. During his career, he has recorded more than twenty records with various improvisers, composers, filmmakers and sound artists. Among them are the famous sound artist Max Eastley, British musician, journalist and theorist David Toop, one of the most promising younger sound artists Ben Gwilliam and Toshiya Tsunoda and young British film-maker Luke Fowler, last year’s nominee for the Turner Prize. Patterson , along with Japanese audio and visual artists Tetsuya Umedo and French reedist Xavier Charles forms a trio Atmosperique In 2012 they perfromed on the festival Densites, playing with Slovene singer and dancer Irene Tomažin. Duo with her will be premiered at the festival performance for voice , voice, amplified objects and processes..
