DATE: Friday, 29 May 2026 | 16:00–19:00
LOCATION: SŠOF, Ljubljana
MENTOR: Oskar Kandare
APPLICATIONS: The workshop is free and open to participants of all skill levels, from beginners to experts. Space is limited. Please register using the online form.
About the workshop
In the workshop, we will build a simple system that allows a motor to move according to what a remote camera, connected via a local network, detects. The control unit will detect visual information (e.g., movement, lines) and convert it into motor movement.
The mentor developed the workshop based on technological solutions from his art project sys_6x3_CAT, in which he produced a “thinking” spatial installation. The installation combined computer vision and responsive movement in a feedback loop (without the use of machine learning).
In the open-source Arduino IDE, we will program the accessible ESP32 microcontrollers and set up a system for the wireless control of a stepper motor. In the vvvv programming environment, we will use a customised “patch” that captures input data from a webcam via the OSC protocol.
The workshop will introduce participants to the independent creation of responsive solutions capable of automatically controlling various motorised installations – from drawing machines to remotely controlled mobile objects.
