After the HEX 1.0 workshop at MENT 2020, we are happy to present its sequel at MENT 2022!
Under the mentorship of artists Anže Sekelj and Staš Vrenko, you will get the chance to build your personal electronic instrument HEX LAG from the semi-modular series of electronic instruments HEX. It is a digital sound processing instrument with signal modulating potentiometers and an interactive tactile surface for direct sound control. It digitally simulates analogue bucket brigade delay chips (typical of chorus, flanger and karplus-strong), but also enables pitch-shifting, downsampling, etc.
Like its predecessor HEX 1.0, through its unusual shape HEX LAG explores new ways of interacting and producing sound with a variety of instruments. Individual modules from the series can act as stand-alone instruments or effects, but can also be combined into different modular compositions. The modularity of the instrument allows the user many combinations and use with pre-existing sound sources, for example guitar effects, synthesizers, smartphones and electro-acoustic instruments.
Following the production of the instrument, there will be an improvised group performance. Participants will have the chance to test the various possible ways of using the instrument for a variety of artistic expressions and collective music-making.
