About the workshop
A two-day workshop on building and using a wireless MIDI controller for music creators!
During the first part of the workshop, we will focus on the construction and configuration of a digital device consisting of an Arduino microcontroller, an ultrasonic sensor and a battery. We will use the device to send real-time sensor values to a computer over a wireless network using the MQTT protocol.
In the following, we will explore the different ways in which this type of technology can be used in music and wider artistic creation. We will use Abletone live and the Max for Live interfaces to connect to our pre-built controllers, and use the data from their sensors to generate MIDI values and map these values to sound effects.
The main goal of the workshop is to stimulate thinking about the possibilities of using this kind of technology and to test such a device in practice.
Technologies used: Arduino, MQTT broker, Max for Live

About the mentor
Dorian Janežič is a creative technologist interested in designing interactive experiences through creative and educational applications. He attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts IMA Low Res, an MFA program focusing on experimental and artistic uses of technology. As part of the program, he developed his own interdisciplinary practice that uses creative coding to create 3D environments, spatial audio, and interactive interfaces.
